Arsenal Humble Man City as Lewis-Skelly Steals the Show
Arsenal kept their English Premier League (EPL) title hopes alive with a stunning 5-1 thrashing of Manchester City on Sunday, 2 February, delivering a blow to the defending champions’ faltering season.
The Gunners struck early at Emirates Stadium in London, England, with Martin Odegaard finishing off Kai Havertz’s pass inside two minutes after a costly mistake from Manuel Akanji. Despite a shocking first-half miss, Havertz redeemed himself later with a well-taken goal.
City briefly threatened a comeback when Erling Haaland’s towering header levelled the match in the 55th minute, but Arsenal responded instantly. Thomas Partey’s deflected strike restored the lead before 18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly stole the headlines with a brilliant third goal.
The teenager then mocked Haaland’s signature meditation celebration, a response to their heated exchange earlier in the season.
As City unravelled, 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri added a late fifth, sealing an embarrassing night for Guardiola’s side. Arsenal’s intensity and youthful energy overwhelmed the visiting team that looked like a shadow of its former self.
To add insult to injury, Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” played at full-time, sending a cheeky final message. Arsenal march on, intent on catching up with EPL leaders, Liverpool.
